Try one or more of Courage Center’s relaxation and complementary care therapies. Traditional land-based services are available as well as relaxation therapy in the water. Relaxation is offered in a group setting through classes such as Ai Chi (in the water), Reiki, Shiatsu, Tai Chi, Therapeutic Massage, Yoga and Watsu.
Adaptive yoga is designed to increase strength, flexibility, balance and ability to focus inward through the active practice of postures. Adapted yoga is offered onsite through Matthew Sanford's Mind Body Solutions; however, this class is FULL and not taking new registrations. Ai chi is preformed in shoulder depth warm water using flowing body movement and deep breathing techniques.
Massage therapy reduces muscle tension, increases circulation and calms the nervous system. (Also see Zen Shiatsu therapy at the bottom of this list.)
Reiki is a Japanese relaxation technique that involves light and hand placements to balance the body’s energy flows and strengthens its ability to heal itself.
Tai chi & Healing Qigong uses safe, low impact, gentle, sitting or standing exercises adapted to meet individual needs. The slow opening & releasing movements combined with the breath are easy to learn & create good health with peace of mind. Adapted Tai Chi & Qigong classes are offered every week by Colin Snow. Watsu is a gentle form of bodywork therapy performed in warm water. It combines elements of massage, joint mobilization, muscle stretching and dance. See the Aquatic Bodywork page for more information.
Zen Shiatsu, a form of land-based masaage, utilizes breath, gentle stretching and pressure administered by thumbs, fingers, palms, elbows, feet and knees.
