Applying to Camp

How to Apply to Courage Center Camps

There are a limited number of spaces available in each session, so campers are encouraged to apply early.

The application deadline for 2010 is May 15.

Application packets are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Acceptance is based on our ability to meet the needs of the camper and completed application materials arriving by the deadline. A confirmation packet, which includes notice of acceptance, transportation information, a health form and other information, is sent once the completed application and fee is received.

Once your application has been processed, you have been tentatively accepted to a session. You then need to have your doctor complete a health form and provide a copy of your medical insurance card. The health form gives us the information to make a decision on final acceptance and ensures we have necessary information on file in case of medical need while at camp.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Courage Center Camps, you must:

  • have a physical disability or visual impairment;
  • have a communication disorder;
  • have a learning disability; or
  • be deaf or hard of hearing.

Campers with severe allergies or other special conditions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants who are medically fragile or who need high levels of one-to-one personal care may not be eligible for a traditional Courage Center Camp. However, we do offer Family Camp and Bring Your Own Caregiver/PCA sessions.

We cannot meet the needs of campers with unpredictable health conditions such as uncontrolled seizures, and/or behavioral problems or disorders. Campers must be able to direct their own care and to communicate their needs appropriately to camp staff. All campers need to be able to function in a group living environment with other campers and staff.

Camper Health and Safety

The health and safety of every camper is our highest priority. Camp staff members monitor each camper’s health daily and will make a referral to our healthcare team as necessary. While safety is a priority, if you or your parent/guardian or physician has a concern about your participation in any activity, please let us know. We share the desire to make camp the best experience possible and welcome guidance on your unique needs and habits.

Financial Information

A non-refundable application fee of $45 must accompany your completed application. Your application will not be processed without the $45 application fee. Limited camperships are available. To determine your eligibility, refer to the sliding fee scale on page F of the print catalog.
